Goal: Copy image

Program Used: Krita

Reference Image:

I started out with a simple rough sketch.

ree

Then traced and compared the sketch to the reference image to make appropriate changes, Which turned out like this...

ree

Then created the body of the mug with just a flat color(no perspective).

Added the reflection simulating the curvature later on even though it is presently in the picture below.

ree

Then added the eye to the mug.

ree

Then added the handle to the side while using the a texture brush inside of Krita to add the rough looking texture to the octopus arm handle.

ree

Then added the tentacles and used the same texture brush with a lighter shade of pink.

ree

Then used the Ellipse tool to create the white oval on the top of the mug and added a gradient(grayish to white) to the oval to simulate inside shadow. To do this I used the the contiguous selection tool to mask to off the outside colors from the gradient tool. I also a used a radial gradient to keep the mug looking round on the inside.

ree

The next thing I did was add the suction cups to the tentacles.

ree

The last thing I did was add the shine to simulate the light direction and the lit area to simulate perspective.

ree

I think it turned out pretty great. Ill use this workflow more often.
